Paolo D'Arrigo
Italy (IT)
I am a designer who explores the matter, appropriates it and gives it back to the world in the form of objects and furnishings. I was born in Rome in 1967. Design soon came into my life as an instinct and turned out in the most direct way, making me want to shape beloved and accurate objects. The practice of restoration and studies in sociology led me, later, to see in the profession of designer a faber of the relations between man, things and the world. I live design as an alchemy of nature and hi-tech. I practice form not as an aesthetic invention, but as the result of a process that is measured with the constraints of the material and pushes them further. I design with any material, wood and glass, metal and ceramic, contaminating them with technology. Each material is a map to follow, letting oneself be guided by its signs, following its implicit directions and revealing those that are possible and yet to be written. In this path, the know-how of the companies with which I work become a means and a boundary to explore and expand as much as possible. I pursue a beauty that communicates the unexpected. I do not plan to respond to a coded need. I start from common elements to reinvent gestures. Of every object I take care of the whole design, including communication.

View ProfileSebastiaan Van beest
Canada (CA)
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Sebastiaan always had a love for sound and design. Winning competitions at a young age for things such as the new Euro money at the age of 14. He spent most of his youth as a graffiti artist running from the authorities. At the age 18 he started to transfer his skills to canvas. Mostly for himself and friends. He never pursued and exhibition nor did he think he was ready, yet. At the age of 20, he moved to Vancouver, Canada, where he had to work for a living. He started producing electronic music as a hobby and performing around the world. He has had many releases on different iconic record labels over the years. He took a step back from music to focus more on work. Creating and designing took a back seat for about 5 years. Just recently he found new inspiration once again to create. He started painting again and making music. Built a workshop to build his furniture and sculptures. He believes now is the time to fully follow his life long dream of being a full time designer. His designs are minimal with focus on the use of negative space to make an impact. He has a strong belief that less is more and that the loudest notes are the ones that aren't played. This translates well into his furniture. Every design is meticulously minimal yet has a very strong presence. Use space without taking up space is his motto.

After testing one or several solutions, its time to choose the best artisans to make it feasible. Manufacturing it's always very limited, mostly due to the design characteristics.
